CNET Reviews has a review of the Samsung Compact DuoCam SC-D6550 and gives it a rating of 5.7 (average) They write - “With a few rare exceptions, camcorders are, at best, mediocre still cameras, while still cameras are very limited camcorder replacements. To get top-quality still and video images, your choices are either to make quality compromises or to carry two devices. Samsung offers a third choice with its DuoCam series, camcorders that pack a pair of lenses, one optimized for video and the other for stills. The Samsung DuoCam SC-D6550 is Samsung’s third-generation entry in the line, bumping up the still resolution and adding a few new features while dropping the bulk and the substantial weight of its predecessors. Unfortunately, the performance of both camera and camcorder remains less than you’d get from dedicated devices in this price range.”

Ciruit City has user reviews of the Samsung Compact DuoCam SC-D6550 and writes - “If you want a really good camcorder that can do almost anything you could ask, get this camcorder. If you want perfect video and pictures that require no filtering, using a computer program, you should look at something else.

On the positive side for the digital still part, this camera has an amazing feature set, and takes very good digital still photos at 5.25 MP. It allows you to adjust more settings that many point and shoot cameras, but seems to lacks any form of flash compensation adjustments, although you can adjust the white balance.

On the negative side, the color of the photos is slightly off. Picutres in bright light seem to be affected by a very slight yellow/green tint. It is very mild, and might not be noticed by many people, but when compared to my older Minolta camera, it’s colors are just not as accurate.”

DC Views has a review of the Samsung Compact DuoCam SC-D6550 and writes - “In addition to producing top-notch video and stills, the DuoCam is packed with all the features consumers expect from a digital camera. The Instant ON feature means the camera is ready to go less than a second after the power button is pressed, while a new battery indicator displays the actual playing time and recording time left. Images and video can be played back on the built-in color LCD screen, and a playback zoom feature allows viewers to focus on a small section of an image.

A host of options ensures the highest quality image capture and display. Slow Shutter and Nite Pix options allow users to compensate for poor lighting conditions. Digital Image Stabilizer and a built-in flash keep stills and video bright and sharp. Program AE (auto-exposure) modes provide built-in recording optimization, automatically selecting the best combination of aperture and shutter speed for superior results. ”
